Impressions and photos of a holiday in California with a detour to the Grand Canyon
San Francisco
We decided to stay an entire day in San Francisco to explore the town, to visit a museum, and of course to see the Golden Gate Bridge.

A visit to San Francisco is not complete without a ride over the Golden Gate Bridge.
The vista point on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge offers spectacular views over the bay.

Near the Palace of Fine Arts is the Exploratorium, a museum of science, art and human perception. You will be amazed with hundreds of displays offering many hours of fun.

Pier 39 is the right place to go at the end of the day. Sea lions form the main attraction for tourists and there are many shops and plenty of restaurants to enjoy an excellent seafood dinner.

Restaurants located on Pier 39 offer a variety of sea food. Try the delicious Salmon Quesedilla or go for the local specialty: fresh clam chowder served in the famous sourdough bread bowl.
San Francisco has of course hundreds of hotels, but with Columbus day approaching (this year on 8 October) this was the start of a long weekend and many were fully booked. So we decided to spend the night in ..... about 1 hour driving to the north. This put us on the right track for our visit to the redwoods area. Goto Day 4.
