From Lake Tahoe we travel south towards the town of Mammoth, which
is near the entrance to the Yosemite National Park. Most of today we
spend on the road, following rocky rivers and with sometimes spectacular
views of valleys that are yellow and orange during this autumn season.
When we wake up we find that it has been snowing; winter is approaching
and soon Lake Tahoe will be a center of winter sports.

On several occasions like this we see small groups of deer running
around in the landscapes along the road.

The shore line of the Mono Lake is black. This is because it is covered
in millions of tiny black flies which form part of this lake's special
ecosystem.
We are very happy that these flies like to sit where they are and
don't want to sit on us.

Mammoth is a winter sports town and has many hotels and lodgings
to choose from. We will stay here two nights because tomorrow we will
spend the entire day visiting the Yosemite National Park. Goto
