Impressions and photos of a holiday in California with a detour to the Grand Canyon

Utah - Day 13

Grand Canyon via Zion National Park to Las Vegas

On our way from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon we had already passed the Zion National Park. We decided that on our way back we would spend
more time there to explore
of the most famous spots in the park.

Rocky landscape

When we approach the Zion National Park the landscape starts to change with pretty rocks and cliffs

Wild goats in Zion National Park

Just after entering the park we are lucky to see this group of wild goats. They didn't look very wild.

Rock with big hole

Nature's design for a new bridge.

Red rock cliff

After passing again through the tunnel the road goes by these bright red cliffs.

Climbers on rock wall in Zion

Do you see the climber on this wall? He is
where near the center of the photo.

There he is, just like Spiderman.

Red rocks in Zion National Park

The most famous valley of Zion National Park is so popular that it attracts thousands of visitors every day. To avoid traffic jams, the road into this valley is now closed for normal traffic and tourists are moved around in free shuttle busses. In different locations you can get off the bus to find hiking trails.

An easy trail in Zion

We follow one of the easy hiking trails between walls of rocks.

River in Zion National Park

Rocks and river in Zion

The trail follows this river which has carved the canyon over many thousands of years.

Hanging gardens

Water seeping through the rocks feed these hanging gardens.

As we follow the river the canyon gets narrower.

Hikers follow the river

At this point the trail ended. The only way to continue is through the water.

Signboard don't feed animals

Hungry squirrel

Ahhhhhhh.... but he is so hungry. Or is he a she?

White rock in Zion National Park

The bus drivers had names for most of the rocks. I think this one was called the Great White Throne.

A final look back before we say goodbye to Zion.

After leaving Zion National Park we continued our way to Las Vegas where we had booked a room in one of the many casino hotels. Tomorrow is the last leg of our journey which will take us back to Los Angeles. Goto Day 14.
