Impressions and photos of a holiday in California with a detour to the Grand Canyon

California - Day 14

Las Vegas to Los Angeles

The drive back from Las Vegas to Los Angeles was quite an uneventful day except that we stopped at a Ghost Town which used to be home to people digging for silver.

Ghost town restaurant

Not a real ghost town because most buildings are still in use as shops or restaurants to serve tourists.

Fire hall in Ghost Town

Fire engine

The old fire hall with its well preserved antique fire engine.

Green coach

An old carriage on display in ghost town.

Warning sign mines

Dark in the silver mine

We got warnings to not enter abandoned mines, but one of the old silver mines was open to the public. It was dark inside.

Mine shaft warning

Mine entrance

More warning signs. The area around ghost town has many of these mine shafts.

Waggon for use in mine

An old piece of equipment from times when the mines were still producing silver.

Gold panning

This was fun. We could try gold panning ourselves.

Hotel Saloon in Ghost town

The wooden buildings in ghost town are well preserved. This one used to be a hotel and saloon.
